Two Missing After Car Drives 1000’ Off Cliff

DETAILS:

  1. Just after noon today, CHP Ventura Division received a 911 call reporting a crash that had occurred Saturday night on Deer Creek Road, approximately two miles north of Pacific Coast Highway
  2. The reporting person was the rear passenger of the vehicle and had sustained “serious injuries,” according to a CHP officer at the scene; he had slowly hiked out from the car to the road, where he was picked up by his brother and taken to a local hospital.
  3. Just after 4 pm, nearly 4 hours after it was reported, CHP located the vehicle and requested a Technical Rescue response from Ventura County Fire.
  4. Arriving firefighters reported the vehicle was a white Cadillac SUV that was 1000’ (yes, one thousand) feet over the side and rolled over numerous times before coming to rest on its roof.
  5. Nobody has heard from the front driver or passenger of the vehicle since the crash occurred; the rear passenger reported he heard someone “calling from above him” and believed one of the two had been ejected.
  6. Urban Search & Rescue, Sheriff Search & Rescue, Search K9s, and helicopters are currently being utilized to search for the two missing occupants.
  7. Ventura County Fire reported that this would be an extended search operation. According to CHP’s PIO, their Twitter post was incorrect, and the driver is still unaccounted for and was not the reporting person.
