Two Horrific, Unrelated Deadly Crashes Shuts Down 101 Freeway | Santa Barbara

08.25.2021 | 2:13 AM | SANTA BARBARA – Four people were killed in separate, unrelated crashes on the 101 Freeway Wednesday morning.

The first crash occurred on the northbound 101 at Winchester Canyon Road. According to CHP Santa Barbara, a Hyundai Sonata was driving in the right lane at an undetermined speed.

The Hyundai crashed into another vehicle in the same lane and then hit the shoulder of the highway before coming to a stop in lanes. The other involved vehicle fled the scene.

The driver of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene.

About ten minutes later, a VW Jetta collided wrong-way with another vehicle southbound and Dos Pueblos Canyon Rd.

The vehicles burst into flames upon collisions, killing all three occupants in both vehicles.

The Jetta matched the description of the vehicle CHP Ventura officers were in pursuit with just prior to the first crash when the pursuit was terminated.
