Truck Collision Sparks Gas Leak and Evacuation in Riverside
INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 4-30-24, 11:30 pm
LOCATION: 7450 Northrop Drive (Mission Grove Park Apartments)

DETAILS:
- Riverside Fire Department responded to reports of a truck that slammed into an apartment building at an apartment complex and severed a Fire hydrant and a natural gas line.
- When firefighters got on scene, they found a truck into the building and a high pressure gas line broken.
- Due to the truck still being started and the amount off natural gas exiting the line, fire fighters started spraying the broken line with water.
- as of 2:30 a.m. they are still spraying the gas line.
- SoCal Gas is on scene and can’t shut off the valve, so they evacuated the building and have a crew enroute to dig up the gas line where, the access the shut off.
- They are estimating the crew will arrive in 2 or 3 hours, s until that time firefighters will be spraying water on the broken line while high pressure natural gas continues to blow out of the broken line.
- At this time, there is one family with a minor 16 year old son who is sleeping in their car and aren’t able to get SoCal gas or police to help them with a motel room. (They refused to do an interview)
- Firefighters have been spraying water on the broken line since 11:30 p.m.
