Troopers Grapple Pursuit Suspect

According to the AZ DPS captain on the scene, a trooper on I-10 near 35th Avenue attempted to stop a black sedan driving at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle refused to yield after the trooper activated his lights.

The trooper called for additional backup units and requested assistance from the Phoenix Police air unit.

The Phoenix Police Air Unit located the vehicle as it exited onto 35th Avenue.

With the suspect on surface streets, troopers disengaged from the pursuit and utilized the air unit to track the suspect from a distance.

The suspect continued onto northbound 35th Avenue from I-10.

A trooper in a pickup truck equipped with a Grappler Police Bumper and several backup units converged on the suspect’s vehicle as it approached Clarendon Avenue on 35th Avenue.

Troopers approached the vehicle from behind and quickly deployed the Grappler device.

The suspect, unaware that troopers were behind him, was abruptly stopped.

A high-risk traffic stop was quickly initiated, and troopers ordered the suspect out of the vehicle at gunpoint.

The adult male suspect complied with commands and was taken into custody without incident.

He faces unlawful flight charges.
