Tree Trimmer Killed Cutting Palm Tree | Torrance

INCIDENT DATE/TIME:12:35pm 1-29-23 LOCATION: 5100 blk of Zakon Rd CITY: Torrance DETAILS: Torrance Fire Department responded to a reported tree trimmer stuck in a tree on the 5100 block of Zakan Rd. Torrance Fire responded with a battalion chief, truck fire trucks, an engine and USAR vehicle. Firefighters located a tree trimmer stuck in a palm tree. The man appeared to be lifeless. Firefighters had to cut the palm fronds around the body to access his body. Firefighters used a pulley system to lower his body. It took firefighters two hours to recover his body. SOT from the man who called 911 and spoke with the tree trimmer who told him to call an ambulance. Torrance PD is handling the investigation. It is unknown if wind played a factor in the man’s death.
