Train Kills Male Who Was Trying to Save a Dog

- The Train Conductor of the NCTD Coaster told the 1st Responders that he was traveling at 60 mph when he saw a male attempting to free a dog that was somehow tied to or stuck on the tracks.
- The train hit its brakes, but the male was hit and thrown off the tracks.
- Officers found a dog leash on the tracks, but no dog was found.
- The male may have been walking his dog, as the officers stated that the victim did not appear to be a transient.
- Both the AMTRAK Surfliner and the NCTD Coaster have been stopped.
