Tragic Fatal Car Fire on Ortega Hwy in Rancho Mission Viejo

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 7/1/23 2:17 a.m
LOCATION: 33608 Ortega Hwy
CITY: Rancho Mission Viejo
DETAILS: One person died after their disabled vehicle was struck and burst into flames on the Ortega Hwy in Rancho Mission Viejo.  Units from the Orange County Fire Authority were dispatched to a call of a vehicle fire just after 2:15 am on the Ortega Hwy; arriving units found a fully involved vehicle fire with another vehicle with heavy front-end damage.  Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the vehicle fire and, unfortunately, found one deceased person inside that vehicle; another victim was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition.  The CHP currently have Ortega Hwy closed until their investigation is complete.
