Tow Truck Driver Killed While Helping Motorist

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 05/31/23 11:12 P.M.
LOCATION: Southbound I-5 at Zoo Dr
CITY: Los Angeles
DETAILS:

1. CHP and LAFD responded to reports of a traffic accident.
2. CHP units arrived to find a male tow truck driver down in the road.
3. CHP officers attempted medical aid to the man before paramedics arrived.
4. Paramedics arrived at the scene and pronounced the man deceased at the scene.
5. The driver of the tow truck responded to a call for help. It is unclear if he had just stepped out of the truck or if he was rendering aid to the caller when he was struck.
6. At this current time, all southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway and part of the 134 interchanges onto the 5 are closed. It is unclear how long the freeway will be closed.
7. The driver that struck the victim remained at the scene.
