Tow Truck Driver Killed While Helping Motorist

LOCATION: Southbound I-5 at Zoo Dr

DETAILS:
- CHP and LAFD responded to reports of a traffic accident.
- CHP units arrived to find a male tow truck driver down in the road.
- CHP officers attempted medical aid to the man before paramedics arrived.
- Paramedics arrived at the scene and pronounced the man deceased at the scene.
- The driver of the tow truck responded to a call for help. It is unclear if he had just stepped out of the truck or if he was rendering aid to the caller when he was struck.
- At this current time, all southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway and part of the 134 interchanges onto the 5 are closed. It is unclear how long the freeway will be closed.
- The driver that struck the victim remained at the scene.
