Torrance: Child Killed By Truck Swerving To Avoid Dog

03.26.2019 | 9:01 PM | TORRANCE – A child was killed after being struck by a pickup truck near a crosswalk, Tuesday night.

Authorities responded to the traffic collision involving a child near the intersection of Madrid Avenue and Del Amo Boulevard around 9:01 PM.

Units arriving on scene found the ten-year-old boy down in the roadway suffering from major injuries.

Firefighter paramedics attempted to perform life-saving measures but tragically the child was pronounced deceased on scene.

Initial reports indicate the driver was attempting to avoid striking a loose dog when he struck the boy.

The driver of the truck remained on scene and appeared to be cooperating with law enforcement.

Neighbors in the area reported that dogs often get loose from a nearby park and that cars speed through the roadway as if it is a freeway.

Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
