Three Teens Killed After Crashing Into Police Car During Pursuit

On February 3rd, 2024, at approximately 10:44 pm, officers from the Fontana Police Department attempted a traffic stop on a white Nissan Sentra for vehicle code violations.  The driver of the vehicle did not comply, and a high-speed pursuit ensued.  The pursuit lasted approximately 20 seconds and reached speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour, ultimately resulting in the suspect losing control of their vehicle and colliding with a responding police unit.

As the pursuit continued, the suspect’s vehicle approached Valley Blvd and Cypress Ave., where they lost control and collided with a marked police unit that was responding to assist in the operation. The impact caused substantial damage to both vehicles, and emergency medical services were immediately dispatched to the scene to provide medical attention to those involved.

The Nissan Sentra was found to be occupied by four individuals who, at this time, have not been identified.  Two of the occupants were transported to local hospitals for life-threatening injuries, and two occupants died immediately on scene.

The police unit that was struck was occupied by two police officers who were both transported to local hospitals for serious injuries.

The San Bernardino Sheriff Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and are handling the investigation.  The Fontana Police Department is cooperating fully with the investigation.

Two passengers in the white Nissan Sentra being chased died at the scene. The driver and another passenger were hospitalized after the crash. The passenger, a 15-year-old, later died from his injuries. The 3 teens killed were all students at Carter High School in Rialto. The driver is still in the hospital as well as one of the two officers.
