Three Survive Horrific Hydrant Crash | Downey
06.16.2021 | 12:10 AM | DOWNEY – A high speed crash caught on camera resulted in two people having to be extricated from an older Ford Explorer Wednesday morning.
Police and firefighters responded shortly after midnight to a reported single vehicle crash along a residential area.
Arriving, authorities located a solo white Ford Explorer older model that sustained severe damage after striking a fire hydrant and power pole, with at least two people still trapped inside.
Firefighters spent about 15 minutes extricating a male and female victim from the vehicle.
Both were taken to an area trauma center in unknown conditions.
A third male in the backseat was able to self extricate and declined medical transport.
Surveillance video captured the SUV as it flipped and created a fiery display of sparks before coming to rest against the power pole.
Speed was believed to have played a factor in the collision, however Downey PD is remaining on scene to determine any other factors that may have been in play.
