Three People Rescued After Falling Into Mineshaft

DETAILS:

  1. Just before 11 PM Thursday night, there was a report of three people that had fallen down a mineshaft in the hills just west of Johannesburg, about 1 mile west of U.S. Route 395.
  2. Two of the three fell about 15 feet down the shaft, they are uninjured, they were rescued almost immediately after the USAR crew arrived.
  3. The third party fell 100 feet down the shaft and has suffered major injuries.
  4. The team has begun to prepare the rescue of the last member of the party.
  5. Kern County Urban Search and Rescue has been flown out via helicopter to assist.
  6. Their equipment is being transported by truck and is far behind.
  7. Firefighters rescued the third patient who had life-threatening injuries and was transported via helicopter to the nearest hospital
