Three Dead in Downtown Fentanyl Overdoses | Los Angeles

05.05.2022 | 12:00 AM | LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Three men are dead Thursday in downtown Los Angeles after police say they ingested the drug fentanyl.

A Los Angeles Police Department officer who responded to their apartment is in the hospital after possibly inhaling the drug accidentally.

Police were called at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday to the 600 Spring Street after one of the relatives of the men contacted authorities to conduct a welfare check at the apartment, said LAPD Officer Melissa Podany.

The victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a CBS 2 report, the victims were in their 40s.

Hazmat crews were also called to the scene.

“We believe that the officer received some sort of exposure to the drug after he responded to the welfare check,” Podany said.

The LAPD officer was taken to a hospital and is listed in stable condition.
