Thousands Gather For Huge Car Meet in Loma Linda
10.03.2020 | 9:00 PM | LOMA LINDA – Around 3,000 car enthusiasts gathered at the Loma Linda Hospital parking structure for a church youth fundraising event that was only expecting 20 cars Saturday night.
Deputies started to receive numerous calls regarding vehicles backing up and large crowds forming around the parking structure, located off Barton Road & San Lucas Drive, around 9:00 PM.
Hundreds of cars were seen flooding into and out of the parking structure as crowds gathered around other parked vehicles.
The event was supposed to be a fundraising opportunity by Loma Linda University’s on-campus Seventh Day Adventist Church, which consisted of a small drive through car show of twenty vehicles. Instead, over a thousand cars arrived.
According to officials, the event violated the state’s current ban on large gatherings due to COVID-19. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials began ordering everyone to disperse shortly after 11:30 PM.
There were no immediate reports of any arrests.
