The Juniper Fire Claims 15 Acres In Riverside County
INCIDENT DATE/TIME:7-22-24, 5:30 P.M.
LOCATION: JUNIPER FLATS ROAD AND MAPES ROAD
AREA/CITY: RIVERSIDE COUNTY
DETAILS:
- HOMELAND – A brush fire that erupted Monday on the north end of Homeland charred 15 acres and forced the closure of a road before Cal Fire aircraft slowed it down, enabling crews to begin establishing containment lines.
- The non-injury Juniper Fire was reported at 5 p.m. in the area of Juniper Flats and Mapes roads, just north of Highway 74, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
- The agency said multiple engine and hand crews from the county, Hemet Fire Department and neighboring agencies were sent to the location and encountered flames moving rapidly through medium vegetation to the east.
- The fire jumped Juniper Flats, spread into a ravine and disrupted traffic on the two-lane road, which the California Highway Patrol shut down from the highway going north.
- Two Cal Fire air tankers and two water-dropping helicopters from Hemet- Ryan Airport less than 10 miles away began runs on the fire by 5:40 p.m., significantly slowing its progress, providing time for firefighters to begin digging containment lines ahead of the flames.
- No homes or other structures were immediately threatened, and no evacuation warnings or orders appeared imminent.
- Officials at the scene requested Cal Fire prevention officers to investigate whether the blaze had been intentionally set.
