Teen Killed After Tesla Crashes Through Guardrail

A 17-year-old boy was killed and four other occupants were injured in a horrific single-vehicle crash on State Route 60 in Moreno Valley Saturday night.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 9:42 p.m. on June 28, 2026, on westbound SR-60 east of Heacock Avenue.

Investigators said an adult male driving a Tesla was traveling at a high rate of speed and attempted to pass traffic on the right shoulder when he lost control of the vehicle and struck the guardrail.

The guardrail penetrated the front of the Tesla and tore through the roof for approximately 80 feet before the vehicle came to an abrupt stop.

The violent impact ejected a 17-year-old male who was seated in the left rear seat and was not wearing a seatbelt. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The adult male driver sustained major life-threatening injuries, while the adult female front passenger suffered serious injuries. An adult female seated in the right rear suffered minor injuries, and another adult female passenger seated in the middle rear escaped without injury.

During the investigation, CHP officers recovered a loaded firearm from inside the Tesla.

A shirt reading “Happy Birthday Princess” was seen wrapped around a section of the damaged guardrail near the crash scene. It is unknown whether the group had been returning from a birthday celebration.

The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
