Sylmar: Major Big Rig Crash Leaves One Dead, Another Injured

07.18.2019 | 11:44 PM | SYLMAR – One person was dead and another was injured after a major crash involving a big rig, late Thursday night.

Authorities responded to reports of a crash involving a big rig on the southbound I-5 Freeway near the I-210 around 11:44 PM.

Units arriving on scene found a big rig that apparently collided with a concrete overpass report trapping both the driver and another passenger inside.

Crews worked for nearly two hours to free the first victim from the wreckage. That victim was treated on scene before being transported to an area trauma center in unknown condition.

The second victim was pronounced on scene and crews were continuing to work to retrieve their body from the mangled mess.

Multiple lanes were closed until further notice while crews worked to extricate the remaining victim and clear the scene.
