SWAT Called After 2 People Shot | San Diego
09.23.2022 | 7:40 PM | SAN DIEGO – On September 23, 2022, at approximately 7:40 p.m., the San Diego Police Communications Center received a report of a shooting in the 2100 block of Logan Avenue. Officers from Central Division responded. In a local restaurant, they located a 36-year-old A Hispanic male had been struck in the head by a bullet that passed through a wall. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening. His name is not being released at this time. Officers began checking the area for suspects or other victims. At an apartment complex in the 900 block of Sampson Street, officers noticed a person down inside of an apartment. There was another male walking around inside the apartment. He refused to cooperate with the officers, speaking with them through the window while moving around in the apartment. At one point, he was observed with a firearm. Officers also heard at least one gunshot from inside the apartment while they were negotiating with the male. SWAT and the Emergency Negotiation Team responded. At approximately 11:00 p.m., the male exited the apartment and was taken into custody without incident. That male was identified as Ramiro Cervantes, described as a 45-year-old Hispanic male. Officers entered the apartment to check on the person down. He appeared to have traumatic injuries, but the extent was not readily apparent. Unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased at the scene by a STAR medic from San Diego Fire-Rescue. The victim has been identified, but his name is not being released at this time. He is described as a 33-year-old Hispanic male. San Diego Homicide Detectives responded to investigate. At this time, there is very little information about what circumstances led up to the shooting. Detectives are working to gather evidence and interview witnesses. Preliminary information gathered is that Cervantes is the victim’s uncle, and they lived together in the apartment. Cervantes was booked into jail for murder and an outstanding felony warrant.
