Suspicious White Powder Prompts Hazmat Response At Police Station

A suspicious package containing an unknown white powder prompted an evacuation and a more than three-hour Hazmat response at a Riverside Police Department station Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 3:00 p.m. on August 4, 2026, a citizen walked into the lobby of the Riverside Police Department’s Magnolia Station at 10540 Magnolia Avenue with a suspicious package they said had been delivered to their home.

According to officials, the package contained a white powder. The citizen reported feeling dizzy and nauseous and believed the symptoms may have been caused by the contents of the package.

Officers evacuated the station lobby and front counter personnel as a precaution while Riverside Police Technical Services Unit personnel and Riverside Fire Department Hazmat crews responded to investigate.

Hazmat personnel remained at the scene for approximately three hours and 21 minutes while evaluating the substance.

Riverside Fire ultimately determined the powder was non-toxic, and the scene was cleared.

The citizen was evaluated by medical personnel following the incident.

No additional information regarding what the substance was or why the package was sent has been released.
