Suspicious Packages / Political Signs Prompt Large HazMat / EOD Response

DETAILS:
- Phoenix Fire, Chandler Fire & Phoenix Police responded to a “Hazardous Situation” at Dignity Health medical plaza near 44th Street & Chandler Blvd in Ahwatukee.
- Officers and Fire HazMat crews were seen inspecting a sign attached to a tree near Dignity Health plaza.
- The sign appears to be hand painted and states: “DEMS LIE”.
- Per fire radio traffic, when fire crews arrived on scene at Dignity Health, the initial on scene radio report stated “Per PD, Ziplock bag has white substance in it. If you breathe it you will die.”

- An additional sign was located on a palm tree outside of the Family of Christ Lutheran Church at 36th Street & Chandler Blvd. That sign states “NEVER HARRIS”.
- A police perimeter has been established around the church, and eastbound Chandler Blvd near the church has been shut down.
- A 3rd sign was located on a palm tree outside of a large shopping plaza near 50th Street & Ray Road. That sign states “DEMS KILL JEWS”.
- A large white Ziplock bag containing an unknown white substance labeled with biohazard warning insignia was seen attached to the lower portion of the “DEMS KILL JEWS” sign.
- According to Phoenix Fire PIO on scene, this is a Phoenix Police criminal investigation, EOD teams and FBI personnel are enroute to the scene.
- Phoenix Police Bomb Squad personnel are on scene at the Dignity Health location.
- Multiple Phoenix Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal units in HazMat suits were seen deploying a ladder onto the palm tree affixed with the “DEMS LIE” sign outside the Dignity Health plaza.
- EOD was seen removing a package containing the unknown white powdery substance and transferring it to a test table for analysis.
- Several local and federal agencies are confirmed to be involved in the ongoing investigation.
- Former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to attend the “Get Out The Vote Block Party” hosted by Arizona Democrats / Jumpstart AZ in Phoenix tomorrow. (Oct 23rd)
