Suspected Street Racer Crashes Into Power Pole In Adelanto

A suspected street racing crash knocked out power to part of Adelanto early Tuesday morning after a driver lost control and slammed into a utility pole before fleeing the scene.

At approximately 12:52 a.m. on July 28, 2026, emergency crews responded to the intersection of Chamberlain Way and Jonathan Street after a vehicle crashed into a power pole.

According to preliminary information, the driver may have been involved in street racing when they failed to negotiate a turn, continued onto a dirt road, and lost control before striking the pole.

The impact caused a power outage that lasted for approximately one hour while Southern California Edison crews worked to secure the damaged utility pole and restore service.

Witnesses reported that another vehicle returned to the crash scene and picked up the driver before law enforcement arrived. By the time San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies reached the scene, the driver had already fled.

San Bernardino County Fire remained on scene with deputies while utility crews completed repairs.

It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The Adelanto Sheriff’s Station is investigating.
