Suspected Robber Killed During Taco Truck Shooting in Boyle Heights

At approximately 10:45 p.m. on January 21st, 2026, officers with the Los Angeles Police Department Hollenbeck Division responded to reports of a shooting near a taco truck at the intersection of Wabash Avenue and Soto Street in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles.
According to police, the incident began as an attempted robbery when a suspect pulled a firearm on a man who was eating at the taco truck. Investigators stated the victim then produced his own firearm and shot the suspected robber multiple times.
The suspected robber, identified as a 26 year-old man, was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Police said the other involved man drove away from the scene following the shooting and was being sought for questioning.
Multiple shell casings and bullet markers were observed near a fence covered by a green tarp adjacent to the taco stand at a nearby gas station. Bloody clothing was also seen lying in the roadway near a vehicle parked close to the scene.
Family members of the deceased arrived at the location visibly distraught, while customers who had been eating at the taco stand were not injured and were interviewed by officers. Police reported possible suspects were last seen fleeing toward the Interstate 10 Freeway.
The shooting remained under investigation by LAPD.
