Suspect Killed In Horrific Pursuit Crash | Riverside
04.08.2022 | 12:50 PM | RIVERSIDE – STOLEN VEHICLE CRASH ENDS IN FATALITY On April 8, 2022, about 11:54 AM, deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station received a general broadcast from the Riverside Sheriff’s helicopter indicating they were following a stolen Nissan Sentra, which had evaded units from the Menifee Police Department during a pursuit. Deputies responded to the area of Perris Boulevard and San Michelle Road to intercept the stolen Nissan and found it traveling northbound on Perris Boulevard in opposing traffic lanes at a high rate of speed. As the Nissan neared the intersection of Perris Boulevard and John F. Kennedy Avenue, it sideswiped another vehicle, while recklessly swerving in and out of traffic and passing in between vehicles. A deputy in the area of the intersection deployed a spike strip in an attempt to quickly and safely disable the fleeing Nissan; however, the suspect was able to continue northbound at a high rate of speed even though it had ran over the spikes. As the Nissan continued northbound on Perris Boulevard and entered the intersection with Cactus Avenue against a red signal light, it struck the passenger side of a gray Toyota Tundra that was traveling eastbound on Cactus Avenue. The collision caused both vehicles to careen into a cinderblock wall located at the intersection’s northeast corner. Deputies, along with medical personnel from Cal-Fire, arrived at the collision scene to find the Toyota’s driver and passenger suffering from injuries, prompting their transport to a local area hospital for continued medical evaluation and treatment. The suspect driver, and sole occupant of the Nissan, was found to have sustained major injuries as a result of the collision and was declared deceased at the scene, despite life-saving measures taken by paramedics. At the request of the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station, the California Highway Patrol’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to assume the collision investigation, which remains ongoing. The investigation required the closure of Perris Boulevard, between Brodiaea Avenue and Delphinium Avenue, as well as Cactus Avenue, from Victor Drive to Agave Street, which are now all reopened. The identity of the suspect will not be released at this time, pending further investigation and the notification to the next of kin. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call Deputy Chris Loucks of the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station at 951-486-6832 or Officer Martin of the California Highway Patrol—Riverside Office at 951-637-8000.
