Suspect Crashes Into Two Vehicles While Fleeing Police | Phoenix
08.21.2022 | 11:30 PM | PHOENIX – Phoenix Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a white Chevy Express work van near 19th Street and Bell Road around 11:30 PM Sunday night. The driver refused to yield to officers and fled Westbound on Bell Road. The officers call for support from the Phoenix Police air unit who was overhead a short time later. Officers pulled back from the vehicle and initiated a tactical surveillance operation, tracking the vehicle from the air while ground units followed at a safe distance. The vehicle traveled West on Bell Road eventually entering I-17 traveling Southbound. At 11:41 PM the vehicle exited I-17 at Thomas Road and collided with a Toyota Prius and a Toyota Tacoma. Officers were not directly behind the vehicle at the time of the collision. Officers surrounded the suspect and quickly took them into custody. Fire crews responded to the scene and evaluated the drivers of the other vehicles involved in the collision. Fortunately no serious injuries were reported and no one was transported to the hospital.
