Suspect Arrested After Possible Hostage Situation In South LA

A large police response unfolded Monday night in South Los Angeles after firefighters requested officers for what was described over the radio as a possible hostage situation.

At approximately 9:00 p.m. on July 27, 2026, Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded to the area of 85th Street and San Pedro Street for an initially unknown call, possibly involving a person inside an SUV.

While on scene, LAFD personnel requested an emergency response from the Los Angeles Police Department for what was described over the scanner as a hostage-type situation.

LAPD officers quickly arrived and forced entry into a nearby residence by breaching the front door. Officers detained and arrested one suspect. Authorities said the suspect was uncooperative following the arrest.

It remains unclear what prompted the initial response by firefighters or who, if anyone, was being held against their will.

No additional information has been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
