Suspect Ambushes SWAT Officers Serving Warrant | Houston
01.04.2022 | 7:44 PM | HOUSTON – HPD SWAT officers were conducting a felony warrant on a suspect for family aggravated assault. When SWAT officers arrived they noticed 5 individuals in the front of the residence. Officers detained those individuals. The individuals confirmed to the officers that the suspect was inside of the residence. Officers surrounded the house and called the suspect out of the residence. After multiple attempts to no avail, officers made their way into the residence and started to systematically search for the suspect. As they were searching the residence the suspect was in an ambush position and fired at officers at close range. The bullet itself did not strike the officer but it’s believe fragments of the bullet hit the officer. The officers was driven to the hospital and was released later in the night with minor injuries to his face. After the suspect fired at officers, 4 SWAT officers returned fire but did not hit the suspect. The officers then retreated back out of the house to take cover. The suspect then barricaded himself in the residence. Hostage and negotiators team responded to the scene. SWAT officers used chemical agents and non lethal ammunition in order to get the suspect out. Officers used a modified type Bobcat vehicle in order to break windows, walls and part of the roof in order to get to the suspect. The suspect was hiding in multiple areas around the house including the closets and under beds. When officers were administering chemical agents the suspect fired multiple rounds at officers. No officers returned fire. Eventually the suspect, a male white, was taken into custody. The suspect was transported by ambulance to get check out. No other officers were injured.
