Sun Valley: Armed Uber Passenger Arrested After Threatening Driver
12.29.2019 | 3:30 AM | LOS ANGELES – A parolee who was riding as an Uber passenger was under arrest after threatening his driver with a gun and barricading himself, early Sunday morning.
An Uber rideshare driver ran from his vehicle and flagged down a California Highway Patrol sergeant on Roscoe Boulevard just west of the I-710 Freeway in the Sun Valley around 3:30 AM.
The driver reported that his passenger, later identified as 36-year-old Sergio Gonzales, had threatened him with a handgun.
Additional officers responded to the scene and attempted to contact Gonzales who was still inside the Uber driver’s vehicle.
Gonzales refused to comply with officers and barricaded himself inside the vehicle for over an hour.
Officers used a less-lethal shotgun rounds to get a view of inside the vehicle before taking Gonzales into custody at 4:40 AM without further incident.
A records check revealed Gonzales was currently on parole for resisting a police officer and assault with a deadly weapon. He was book on suspicion of making criminal threats.
No injuries were reported.
