Stringer Helps Rescue Dog From House Fire

At approximately 8:58 a.m. on May 1, 2026, crews responded to a structure fire in the 1300 block of Calera Street in Vista.

Upon arrival, a deputy and an OnScene.TV stringer rescued a dog from the rear of the home, but the animal ran back inside. Firefighters then re-entered and successfully rescued the dog a second time as they worked to quickly knock down the flames.

A second dog was located inside the home and was pronounced deceased.

The stringer was treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
