Street Sweeper Crashes Into Police Car

LOCATION: Southbound I-17 Near Dunlap Avenue

According to DPS on scene, a DPS trooper was conducting a traffic stop on a 2 door coupe just north of Dunlap Avenue on the southbound I-17.

Both the trooper and the traffic stop vehicle were stationary on the right shoulder of the southbound mainline.

Moments later, a street sweeper pickup truck traveling south on I-17 veered onto the shoulder struck the DPS patrol SUV at high speed.

The collision pushed the patrol vehicle forward, into the vehicle from the initial traffic stop.

Additional troopers and Phoenix Fire crews quickly converged on the scene.

The trooper, driver of the sweeper, and driver of the initial traffic stop vehicle were evaluated on scene by Phoenix Fire personnel.

All involved parties refused further medical attention, none were hospitalized.

DPS troopers are investigating the collision.
