Standoff Ends in Arrest After Possible Overdose Incident

- LAFD responded to a possible overdose at 66th & Normandie
- Firefighters arrived and attempted to start CPR on an OD victim
- A man with a gun allegedly entered the location and told firefighters to stop CPR
- Firefighters retreated from the scene
- LAPD 77th officers surrounded the building
- One male was detained at the scene and was heard saying, “he’s dead up there.”
- It is believed officers located a deceased victim in one of the units in the apartment
- Officers can be heard on the radio stating they are trying to find the suspect with the gun, who is possibly in unit 213
- A perimeter has been established, and LAPD has a command post at 67th & Normandie
- LAFD is also staging at this time

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Police Tuesday arrested a man who was barricaded for several hours in a residence in the Harvard Park area of South Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to the 6500 block of South Normandie Avenue around 12:05 a.m. regarding a possible overdose. When the officers arrived, they learned a man inside the residence was refusing to allow police or medical personnel to enter, LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman told City News Service.
Police created a perimeter on Normandie from 65th and 67th streets, and a standoff ensued for several hours until the suspect was taken into custody, according to police. The man’s name was not immediately available for release.
