PACEX FALCON 9 LIGHTS UP SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SKY DURING MILITARY SATELLITE LAUNCH
VANDENBERG SPACE FORCE BASE, CA – OCTOBER 10, 2026
A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket lit up the Southern California night sky early Saturday morning following a launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County.
The rocket lifted off at approximately 12:39 a.m., carrying 21 satellites for the U.S. Space Development Agency (SDA).
The mission, known as Tranche 1 Transport Layer A, is part of a military satellite network designed to improve secure communications, missile warning, and tracking capabilities for U.S. forces and their allies.
The launch followed several delays earlier in the week, including an aborted launch attempt on October 5.
The Falcon 9 rocket departed Vandenberg on a southerly trajectory over the Pacific Ocean. The reusable first-stage booster was scheduled to return to Landing Zone 4 at Vandenberg following stage separation.
The launch was visible across portions of Southern California, with the rocket illuminating the overnight sky.
