South Whittier: Undercover Officers Shoot Armed Suspect During Unrelated Investigation
03.31.2020 | 5:09 PM | SOUTH WHITTIER – Undercover officers conducting an investigation shot a man who was produced a firearm while walking down a street, Tuesday evening.
Authorities responded to reports of an officer-involved shooting near the intersection of Beaty and Laurel avenues around 5:09 PM.
Units arriving on scene learned that undercover Los Angeles Police Department officers were investigating an unrelated incident when they saw one of two men produce a handgun.
The officers confronted the suspects and an officer-involved shooting occurred.
Both suspects were detained and firefighter paramedics transported one of the suspects to an area hospital in stable condition. The second suspect was placed under arrest and booked into custody.
A firearm was recovered from the scene however it was unclear if the suspect who was shot had possession of the weapon.
No officers were injured and the area surrounding the shooting was closed while authorities investigated.
