South Whittier: Teenage Skateboarder Airlifted After Being Struck By Van

10.18.2019 | 4:35 PM | SOUTH WHITTIER – A 16-year-old skateboarder was airlifted to a hospital after being struck by a van, Friday evening.

Authorities responded to reports of a traffic collision involving a skateboarder and a van near the intersection of Mulberry Drive and Ruoff Drive around 4:35 PM.

Units arriving on scene located a 16-year-old male down on the ground suffering from injuries after being struck by a van.

Firefighter paramedics treated the teenage boy on scene before transporting him to USC Medical Center via helicopter.

The driver of the van that struck the skateboarder remained on scene and was cooperating with law enforcement.

Initial reports indicate the skateboarder was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash.

An investigation is ongoing.
