South Whittier: Sexual Predator Captured by SWAT Officers
01.12.2019 | 7:15 PM | SOUTH WHITTIER – A man who reportedly groped two women, sexually assaulted another, burglarized a home, and attempted to carjack a vehicle was under was under arrest after being captured by SWAT officers, Saturday night.
Officers responded in force to the 10200 block of Ruoff Avenue around 7:15 PM after receiving reports of a man who groped a women inside an apartment complex laundry room.
Additional calls soon poured in reporting the man was attempting to break into nearby apartments.
Another caller reported the man had broken into her apartment and groped her 13-year-old daughter before fleeing the complex on a bicycle.
Units arriving on scene located the suspect fleeing down a wash on a bicycle and chased the man into another nearby apartment complex before losing visual of him.
A police helicopter ordered residents to lock their doors and shelter in place while a plethora of officers searched for the sexual predator.
A perimeter was established while SWAT officers descended upon the suspects last known location.
The SWAT team took located the man, described as a male Hispanic in his 20s, and took him into custody.
Multiple witnesses identified the suspect before he was booked into custody.
Officers say the suspect may have attempted to carjack a person in a nearby Stater Brothers parking lot while attempting to flee from officers.
