South Houston: Teen DUI Driver Kills Young Mother In Crash
12.16.2018 | 9:50 PM | SOUTH HOUSTON – A young mother driving with her child was killed by a teenage DUI driver, Sunday night.
Authorities responded to the crash in the 1500 block of College Avenue shortly before 10:00 PM and discovered two vehicles with substantial damage.
Units arriving on scene discovered one vehicle occupied by a female later identified as 23-year-old Taylor Phillips, her one-year-old child, and the child’s 48-year-old grandmother.
Firefighter paramedics arriving on scene discovered Phillips had passed away from her injuries in the crash. Both her child and the grandmother suffered serious injuries and were transported to an area hospital.
The driver of the second vehicle, identified as 19-year-old Erick Hernandez was not seriously injured.
Police investigating the crash determined Hernandez was under the influence of alcohol and also found a fake ID card in her vehicle.
Hernandez was placed into custody and charged with manslaughter among other charges.
