South Central: Two-Story Apartment Building Sustains Partial Collapse Amid Fire
05.16.2020 | 3:03 AM | LOS ANGELES – A two-story apartment building build in the 1920s sustained a partial collapse as firefighters battled a fire within, early Saturday morning.
Authorities responded to reports of a structure fire burning at an apartment building located in the 4000 block of Main Street in the Historic South Central area around 3:03 AM.
Units arriving on scene located a two-story apartment building built in the 1920s with heavy smoke showing.
Firefighters evacuated the building while they worked to locate and attack the fire which was seated in basement.
Pack rat conditions complicated the firefight and resulted in crews being forced to pull out of the building before a portion of the second-story collapsed.
Over 110 firefighters were on scene battling the greater alarm fire for several hours.
One resident suffered unknown injuries as a result of the fire and was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
