Snow Storm Shuts Down Hwy 18 and 330 in San Bernardino Mountains
INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 3.13.25 | 8:11 PM
LOCATION: San Bernardino Mountains
AREA/CITY: San Bernardino Mountains
DETAILS:
- ALL VIDEOS WERE TAKEN BETWEEN 5 PM AND 7 PM
- Highways 18 and 330 have been shut down absolutely. Highway 330 sustained damage from the storm, and Highway 18 shut down due to hundreds of cars gridlocked and spinning out throughout the highway.
- CHP and first responders struggle to access the crashes and spin-outs due to the gridlocked traffic jam involving hundreds of vehicles.
- An incredible, powerful snow storm slammed the San Bernardino Mountains, dumping 2-4 feet throughout the mountains from Crestline all the way through Running Springs and Big Bear.
- There are stuck vehicles and massive multi-vehicle pile-ups throughout High way 18 and other roads.
- Currently, there is a 50-car pileup on Highway 18 just north of Sky Park’s “Santas Village.” We tried to access the pileup; however, the traffic was backed up almost two miles and at a complete standstill, and many are reporting they have been sitting in the traffic jam for two hours.
- Multiple semi trucks were reported stuck in the snow. Footage shows a disabled fuel tanker stuck in the snow near Crestline.
- Footage shows the drive through Kuffel Canyon in Lake Arrowhead, one of the lake’s most notoriously dangerous roads during snow storms.
- Kuffel Canyon remained unplowed and was burying well over a foot of snow.
- Chain Control checkpoint sits on Highway 18 at the 4k foot level turnout just below the Crestline bridge.
- Many of the big pile-ups were inaccessible due to backed-up traffic.
