Slow-Speed Pursuit Ends With Arrest In North County

At approximately 1:00 a.m. on May 29, 2026, Oceanside Police attempted a traffic stop on a pickup truck near Oceanside Boulevard and North Melrose Drive.

Authorities say the driver failed to yield, leading officers on a pursuit through Oceanside and into Vista, where additional law enforcement resources were requested.

The pursuit continued at relatively slow speeds onto State Route 76, where officers deployed spike strips that disabled one of the truck’s left-side tires.

A second spike strip deployment on southbound Interstate 15 disabled the remaining left-side tire, but the driver continued fleeing despite the damage.

The pursuit eventually ended after the vehicle exited at Deer Springs and pulled into an ARCO gas station.

A high-risk felony stop was conducted, and the driver, described as an older male, was taken into custody without further incident after crawling back toward officers.

No injuries were reported, and authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the reason for the pursuit.
