Shingle Wielding Suspect In Custody After Hours Long Standoff

LOCATION: 309 w Opp St / Fries Ave, Los Angeles Public Library, Wilmington Branch

DETAILS:

1. 911 call came in of a man throwing roofing material from the roof of the building attempting to strike passerbys and vehicles
2. A radio call came in that the suspect was now lighting the abandoned library on fire
3. LAPD responded, and located the suspect on the roof of the building, and began taking incoming roofing material, which made this an assault with a deadly weapon on an officer call
4. The suspect was seen lighting palm leaves on fire creating smoke with the multiple lighters he had
5. At one point the suspect had climbed to the top of a large tree, before bringing himself down
6. LA Port police responded to assist with the use of drone technology
7. after being offered a bottle of water, the suspect finally came down and surrendered to awaiting officers bringing the standoff to a close
