Sepulveda Basin Burns As LA County Sets Temperature Record
The Sepulveda Basin caught fire today as the nearby Woodland Hills temperature monitoring station at Pierce College recorded the highest temperature ever in Los Angeles County when it reached 121 degrees. The record high temp beat the 119 degree temperature set back on July 22, 2006. The blaze started around 1pm near Burbank/405 and temporarily caused the shutdown of the southbound 405 lanes. The fire spread to 20 acres before firefighters were able to get the upper hand and contain it in about three hours. Two firefighters and a civilian were reported to have non-life-threatening injuries but those injuries weren’t specified by LAFD. No information has yet been released on the cause and the freeway closures were lifted around 4:45am.
