Semi vs. Truck W/Extrication Shuts Down Market Street Bridge

- Riverside Police Department and Riverside Fire Department were dispatched to a major traffic collision with extrication involving a semi vs. a truck with people trapped.
- When units arrived on scene they found a semi and a pick up truck with major damage and two parties trapped on the Market Street Bridge, which is county jurisdiction, and Cal Fire Riverside County, Jurupa Valley fire fighters and Riverside County Sheriffs Office was summoned.
- The passenger from the truck was helped out of the vehicle but the driver required extensive extrication.
- Fire fighters used the jaws of life to cut the driver out of the truck.
- Extrication took about 20 minutes.
- The driver was transported suffering from unknown injuries.
- The driver of the semi was able to self extricate before police arrived on scene.
- The second passenger was transported suffering from non life threatening injuries.
- About 25 gallons of fuel spilled out of the truck, Market Street bridge will remain closed while police investigate and Hazmat crews clean up the spill and remove the vehicles.
- It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
