Seal Beach: Massive Third Alarm Fire Destroys Apartment Building
01.20.2020 | 12:48 AM | SEAL BEACH – Over 30 people were displaced after a massive third-alarm fire broke out in an apartment building, early Monday morning.
Authorities responded to reports of a structure fire at the Rossmoor Park Apartments located in the 12200 block of Montecito Road around 12:48 AM.
Crews arriving on scene located a two-story apartment building with heavy fire showing from the second-floor.
Firefighters initiated an aggressive fire attack and began evacuating residents from the building as the fire spread from unit to unit.
It took crews nearly an hour gain control of the fire which had taken hold in the building’s common attic.
At least two people suffered from smoke inhalation and another was burned. Two of the three patients, including the burn patient, were transported to area hospitals in unknown condition.
The American Red Cross was requested to assist over 20 displaced adults and 10 children.
Fire investigators are on scene working to determine the cause of the fire but initial reports indicate the unit of origin was plagued with packrat conditions.
