Sea Lion Rescued From Busy California Freeway | Rancho San Diego

01.07.2022 | 9:40 AM | SAN DIEGO – A California Sealion well known to the Sea World Rescue staff somehow made its way from San Diego Bay and up Chollas Creek (the most polluted waterway in the County) to Hwy 94. This is approx 3-4 miles from the Bay. The young Sealion came out of the storm channel and made its way to the right shoulder of the very busy eastbound Hwy 94 and made its way to the center divider area, crossing the freeway. Cars stopped to allow the Sealion to cross safely. By the time the CHP officers and Sea World Rescuers arrived the Sealion was exhausted. 3 of the rescuers used large nets to capture the Sealion and then transferred him to a metal cage. This isn’t the first encounter that the rescuers have had with this animal as he was rescued a short time ago on Harbor Island. He was tagged for identification purposes.
