Santee: Acid Spill Closes Down Busy Intersection

12.03.2018 | 7:50 AM | SANTEE – A busy intersection was closed after what is believed to be muriatic acid was spilled across lanes, Monday morning.

Police and fire officials responded to a reported hazmat spill near the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Prospect Street shortly before 8:00 AM.

Crews arriving on scene found what appeared to be a 1-gallon jug of muriatic acid that spilled across lanes causing vapor to off gas.

Due to the dangerous nature of the acid, the intersection was closed and hazardous materials teams were requested to the scene.

For more than an hour hazmat crews worked to clear the chemical from lanes.

Officials believe the acid likely fell off a pool cleaner’s truck at some point in the morning.

Foul play was not suspected.
