Santa Paula: Maria Fire Grows To 9,000+ Acres, Thousands Evacuated
10.31.2019 | 6:30 PM | SANTA PAULA – A fast-moving wildfire dubbed the “Maria Fire” grew to over 9,000 acres forcing thousands to evacuate, Thursday night.
Authorities responded to a reported on top of South Mountain in Ventura County near Santa Paula around 6:30 PM.
Crews arriving on scene located a fast-moving vegetation fire and began efforts to attack the blaze.
High winds hampered efforts and allowed the fire to grow rapidly.
By early Friday morning the fire had burned more than 9,000 acres with no containment reported.
Over 8,000 people and 2,300 structures were under mandatory evacuation orders as the fire threatened the community of Somis.
It was unclear if any injuries had been reported but several structures are believed to have burned.
