Santa Barbara: Cave Fire Burns 4,000+ Acres
11.26.2019 | 9:30 AM | SANTA BARBARA – Firefighters from across California are continuing to battle the wind-driven Cave Fire that has scorched to more than 4,000 acres, Tuesday morning.
Authorities initially responded to the reported brush fire in the Los Padres National Forest near the SR-154 Freeway around 4:30 PM, Monday evening.
Crews arriving on scene located an approximately 15 acre brush fire being quickly spread up steep terrain by winds gusting up to 65 MPH.
Over 600 firefighters from agencies across California were working with nearly 20 different firefighting aircraft to contain the fire.
By Tuesday morning over 4,100 acres had burned and no containment was reported however authorities anticipate an upcoming rainstorm will assist in the firefight.
Approximately 2,400 homes were under mandatory evacuation orders and many others were issued evacuation warnings.
No injuries or structure damage was immediately reported.
