Santa Ana: Protesters Defy Curfew, Call For Answers In LASD Shooting
06.23.2020 | 8:00 PM | SANTA ANA – About 50 to 100 people defied a citywide curfew to protest the LASD shooting death of an 18-year-old security guard in Gardena, Monday night.
The group gathered at the intersection of Bristol Street and McFadden Avenue around 8:00 PM to protest the fatal deputy-involved shooting of 18-year-old Andres Guardado Pineda in Gardena.
The June 18th shooting in Gardena left Pineda dead after deputies say he produced a firearm and fired at officers while fleeing.
At around 8:30 PM the group of protesters in Santa Ana began marching after stopping to lay in the intersection.
A citywide curfew took effect at 10:00 PM and about 50 protesters remained in defiance of the order.
No arrests or injuries were immediately reported and video shows fireworks being discharged during the protest.
