Santa Ana: Armed Robbery Suspect Barricades Himself After Attempted Carjacking
07.09.2019 | 7:30 PM | SANTA ANA – A armed robbery suspect who tried to carjack a Pizza Hut delivery driver was in custody after an hours long standoff, early Wednesday morning.
Authorities responded to reports of a robbery and attempted carjacking of a Pizza Hut delivery driver near the intersection of Bristol Street and Segerstrom Avenue around 7:30 PM.
Units responding spotted the suspect fleeing the scene and attempted to stop him. A short foot pursuit ensued before officers lost visual of the suspect.
A short time later a resident in the 3200 block of South Thornton Street called police to report an armed man had entered into his home. The man reported that he had escaped his home but that his family was still inside with the armed man.
Officers responded in force and quickly rescued the remaining family members from the home but were unable to entice the suspect to surrender.
An hours long standoff ensued that ended around 6:00 AM when the suspect finally surrendered to a SWAT team.
The suspect’s identity was not immediately released.
