San Diego: Sheared Hydrant Floods Homes, Driver Flees
11.18.2018 | 2:00 PM | SAN DIEGO – A hydrant sheared by a hit-and-run driver sent a geyser 50-feet into the air and flooded homes, Sunday afternoon.
Police and fire officials responded to the 5000 block of University Avenue around 2:00 PM regarding reports of a vehicle that struck a fire hydrant.
Units on scene discovered an approximately 50-foot geyser resulting from a sheared hydrant.
Witnesses reported seeing a large U-Haul truck back over the hydrant before fleeing the scene.
Due to the substantial amounts of water coming from the sheared hydrant, water poured into nearby homes.
City water officials responded to assist in stopping the water flow which lasted for approximately 45 minutes.
Police and searching for the driver of the reported U-Hail rental truck.
An individual matching the suspected hit and run driver was spotted on camera leaving the area and displayed his middle finger.
